Vintage Homes Knoxville

IMG_0056My company is restoring this great 1949 cottage to sell in Knoxville, Tennessee. It has 3 bedrooms, hardwood floors, arched doorways, original trim and fixtures, a classic mid-century kitchen, and a huge double lot with fenced backyard. The neighborhood is wonderfully leave-it-to-Beaver. My wife and I live just a few blocks away.

Cabinets Ordered

Tonight I went to Home Depot and ordered new base cabinets to coordinate with the existing flat-front white cabinetry. I hadn’t budgeted for new cabinets, but they will definitely work well with the style of the house. They’re made by Premier and feature white “beaded recessed panel cottage doors” according to the website. The drawers are hardwood with dovetailed joints, and the standard 24” depth will support the new dark gray countertop. They will look great with the new checkerboard linoleum tile floor.

Faruk and Murad are nearly done with the painting, and it looks great. I will miss having two guys working every day — they got a lot done in just two weeks. Dave came by to size up the exterior repairs and painting. I showed him the damaged tile in the bath and he said he could finish it for me. It turns out he’s used a grinder and masonry blade to cut through the tile grout on a similar job.

I cleaned and painted the floor registers and returns today, and they look great. I’ll need to take them out again before the sanding crew comes in, and vacuum the ductwork when they are done.
